Nation’s Top Safety Jordan Morant Has Ohio State in Final Five

Jordan Morant Ohio State Recruiting Buckeyes

Four-star Oradell, New Jersey (Bergen Catholic) safety Jordan Morant released his final five schools on Friday and the Buckeyes made the cut. Joining Ohio State were Michigan, USC, Texas A&M, and Penn State. He tweeted out the news.

Morant (5-11 212) will commit at the All-American Bowl on January 4.

Ranked the No. 1 safety in the 2020 class and the No. 47 player overall in 247Sports’ own rankings, Morant is the No. 10 safety in the Composite and the No. 159 player overall.

Morant also holds offers from the likes of Notre Dame, Clemson, Alabama, Stanford, and Tennessee.

Ohio State was previously placed in Morant’s Top 10 back in early April. A few weeks later, he visited OSU unofficially.

As a junior last season, Morant put up 36 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, and three pass break ups. He allowed just two completions of more than 10 yards. Morant was named Second-Team All-State for the second year in a row.

Morant has an official visit scheduled to Penn State next weekend and then Michigan the weekend after that.

Morant is a physical defender who plays cornerback and safety for Bergen Catholic, and also lines up at times as an edge rusher in blitz packages.

In fact, in looking at his highlights, he could project as a safety or Bullet at Ohio State. He is asked to do a lot on defense right now and appears to handle it well.

June is going to be a big month for Ohio State’s recruiting efforts on defense. Currently, only Florida defensive back Lejond Cavazos is the lone defensive commitment for the Buckeyes.

In two weeks, Ohio State will host 4-star cornerback Clark Phillips and 4-star safeties Lathan Ransom and Makari Paige on official visits.
