Knighton (5-9 185) is the No. 3 all-purpose back in the 2020 class and the No. 108 player overall in the 247Sports Composite. He took his final official visit to Ohio State the weekend of June 21.
Previously committed to Oklahoma, Knighton decommitted in January. He will be choosing between the Sooners, Ohio State, Clemson, Florida State, Miami, and LSU.
Oklahoma already has two running backs committed in the 2020 class.
Florida State and Ohio State appear to be the two favorites based on the prediction metrics of both 247Sports and Rivals, with FSU being the slight favorite over the Buckeyes. The last four Crystal Ball projections placed have been in favor of Ohio State, however.
Ohio State wants to take two running backs in the 2020 class. Five-star Arizona running back Bijan Robinson is announcing his commitment on August 2 and is expected by many to choose the Buckeyes.
Knighton was a First-Team All-State selection last season, reportedly rushing for 2,143 yards and 28 touchdowns.
His highlights show a decisive runner who only needs a little bit of daylight to light up the entire living room. He gets fast quick and uses that pace to lower his shoulder when necessary.
Knighton is listed as an “all-purpose back,” which is usually code for “small and light,” but he is plenty physical. And keep in mind, Ezekiel Elliott was also once considered an all-purpose back and he never shied away from contact.
Knighton is as comfortable running north-south as he is east-west. He is also a dangerous outlet receiver on passing downs.
Ohio State’s recruiting class is filling up quickly, but there is definitely room for both Knighton and Bijan Robinson. If the Buckeyes can land both, that would be a very talented haul of running backs.
