Ohio State’s Matt Barnes Expected to Take Defensive Coordinator Job With Memphis

PASADENA, Calif. — Memphis is reportedly expected to hire Ohio State’s Matt Barnes as its next defensive coordinator.

Barnes took over play calling duties for Kerry Coombs after Ohio State’s loss to Oregon in week two of the season, but his play calling duties would not continue for the next season. Ohio State hired Jim Knowles as its new defensive coordinator.

Barnes did not speak to the media after the Rose Bowl win.

  1. He did admirable work, but he didn’t stop Michigan. Does he know anything about Ohio State. His refusal to use a big man in the middle when Michigan was running play after play there for 7 yards a play displayed a poor grasp of his coaching options.

In any case, good luck in the future. At Ohio State you can get away with anything, but lose to Michigan. He didn’t understand the job. Especially when we had a generational offence and all the defence had to do was get a few stops.

    1. I just do not know why we never use 5 men lines and make QBs beat us with their arms instead of running the ball down our throats this year.

I wish Barnes well but we have to make major changes to our defensive staff. Just not getting it done for several seasons now.
