After being committed to Ohio State since February, 5-star California safety Jaiden Woodbey flipped from the Buckeyes and has signed with Florida State.
Woodbey is ranked the No. 2 safety in the nation and the No. 27 prospect in the 2018 class overall by the 247Sports Composite.
Florida State offered Woodbey just eight days ago and he visited FSU officially this past weekend. Apparently, he liked what he saw.
The Seminoles are currently in the midst of a coaching change and current Seminoles defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach Charles Kelly is not expected to be retained by new head coach Willie Taggart. His eventual replacement has not been named yet either, meaning that Woodbey’s future position coach is an unknown at this point.
While the loss is a blow, the Buckeyes still signed the nation’s No. 5 safety in Tyreke Johnson and the No. 8 safety in Josh Proctor. They also signed 3-star safety Marcus Hooker, who is the brother of former Ohio State All-American Malik Hooker. Johnson is expected to begin his career at cornerback.
Woodbey was the second decommitment of the day for Ohio State, as quarterback Emory Jones signed with Florida. That was expected, however, as the Buckeyes decided they didn’t have room for Jones when they went out and got a commitment from Texas quarterback Matthew Baldwin.
Ohio State also missed out on 5-star Ohio offensive tackle Jackson Carman, who signed with Clemson.
The Buckeye recruiting class, which has spent the bulk of the last year ranked No. 1, has now fallen to No. 2 behind Georgia.
