Ford (5-11 185) is a 5-star prospect and the No. 1 running back in the 2019 class according to Rivals. He is also ranked as the No. 10 player overall. According to the 247Sports Composite, Ford is the No. 7 running back in the nation and the No. 78 player overall.
As a junior in 2017, Ford was a First-Team All-State selection following a season where he rushed for 2,058 yards and 32 touchdowns. Despite the production, Clemson is the only school in Ford’s top six that is recruiting him as a defensive back.
Ohio State has had some success recruiting in Virginia this decade, signing players like Curtis Grant, Jalyn Holmes, Wayne Davis, A.J. Alexander, and Matt Burrell.
Ford is one of 11 2019 running backs that Ohio State has offered. Five-star prospect and No. 3 overall tailback Noah Cain (IMG Academy) has previously said the Buckeyes are on top for him, but there is a long way to go until the first signing day this December.
Ohio State is on the verge of signing three running backs in the 2018 class, and could also be in a position to sign multiple backs in 2019.
What Does Devyn Ford Like About Ohio State?
“It’s just the environment,” he told Fredericksburg.com. “I fell in love with it when I went to see one of the games. The people there are really fun. I have a great relationship with Tony Alford and Urban Meyer. It’s pretty cool up there.”
As a runner, Devyn Ford is very similar to 2018 OSU signee Brian Snead. He displays good speed and vision with the agility to completely adjust his path and then get up to speed quickly. He runs bigger than his listed size of 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds, but will clearly need to get bigger and stronger at the next level.
Ford is expected to cut his top six in half this spring and then offer up his verbal commitment in the spring.
