Freshman running back J.K. Dobbins enrolled at Ohio State early, which allowed him to take part in winter conditioning and spring football. That experience has allowed him to become the first Buckeye freshman this year to have his black stripe removed. The removal of the black stripe from an OSU helmet signifies that the player has done well enough to officially earn his place as an Ohio State Buckeye.
Dobbins did well enough in the spring and during the summer for Urban Meyer to declare that he has already done enough to show that he can play. The removal of Dobbins’ stripe is just further proof of his escalation. Dobbins has even positioned himself to possibly be Mike Weber’s backup this season.
