Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer spent a few minutes on the Big Ten coaches teleconference. It was his first meeting with the media this week. He provided some updates on his football team and also looked ahead to Saturday night’s matchup against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Here are the highlights.
+ Meyer has seen a rise in the confidence of Binjimen Victor. We’re not even scratching the surface of his ability. He’s working all the time. “He’s a very talented guy.” “I’ve not had many like that.” He said Cris Carter and Mike Thomas were two guys he’s had that are like that. “He’s got great ball skills.”
+ Asked about the tight end in the backfield that the Buckeyes showed last week, that came from Kevin Wilson and Ryan Day. They’re still working on it and it was effective and they will continue to use it.
+ The right guard position is wide open. Malcolm Pridgeon, Matt Burrell, and Demetrius Knox are all vying for the spot.
+ Meyer didn’t want to address Monday’s canceled presser out of privacy for the player and his family.
+ Meyer is always thinking about changing things that don’t work. Asked about the kickoffs, he said they struggle to kick it through the end zone as well. “We’re still figuring out what we can do.”
+ They received a response from the Big Ten about Denzel Ward’s hit and the conference said it was a mistake and it shouldn’t have happened. To say he is concerned that this could happen in a key point in a game is not strong enough language.
+ J.T. Barrett and his receivers are playing very well together. They practice that way and they work that way. The last time the Buckeyes were really good at throwing the ball was 2014, and they’re averaging more passing yards this year. “I can’t ask more out of them” in terms of how hard they are working.
