Per Reports, Mike Vrabel Targeting Ryan Day as Titans’ OC

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, newly-hired Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel has zeroed in on Ohio State quarterbacks coach Ryan Day to be the Titans’ offensive coordinator.

Day, a former assistant under Chip Kelly, is seen as a perfect fit to guide an offense led by Tennessee quarterback Marcus Mariota, who played at Oregon during Kelly’s final seasons as the head coach there.

Day has been the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for just one season at OSU, but in that year he helped raise the Buckeyes’ passing efficiency by 23 points and increased the passing from the year before by almost 900 yards.

No decision has been made public from Day yet, and nothing has been released from Ohio State at this point.

A month ago, Urban Meyer said that Day had passed up the opportunity to pursue a head coaching job in the SEC, and has passed up other college coaching jobs as well. Will this position in the NFL, which is where he spent the 2015 and 2016 seasons, be enough to lure him away from Ohio State?

Meyer has long said he asks for a two-year commitment from each of his assistant coaches, but that has always been a good faith situation rather than a legally-binding position.

Redshirt freshman quarterback Tate Martell has reacted to the news.
