Ohio State Makes Cut for 4-Star Texas WR Jalen Curry

Jalen Curry Ohio State Recruiting Buckeyes

Four-star Houston, Texas (St. Pius X High School) wide receiver Jalen Curry released his Top 10 on Saturday, and the Buckeyes were one of four different conferences represented in his cutdown.

Ohio State was joined by Auburn, Florida State, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, TCU, Arkansas, Ole Miss, and LSU. Curry tweeted out the news.

The Buckeyes offered last month. Curry (6-3 197) also holds offers from Michigan, Miami, UCLA, and Chattanooga.

Ranked the No. 18 receiver in the 2018 class and the No. 90 player overall, Curry caught a remarkable 122 receptions for 1,576 yards and 18 touchdowns last season as a junior. He also set a state record with 26 receptions in a single game. He was named First-Team All-State for his efforts.

Curry is a big receiver who has the strength to turn screens into big gains. He is a versatile receiver who can be used in a variety of ways, be it on slants, deep routes, screens, etc. Curry is also effective in the red zone as he uses his body to shield defenders on back-shoulder passes, and also has the size to go up over a cornerback as well.

At a The Opening Regional in Houston last weekend, Curry ran a 4.76 40-yard dash with a 4.29 shuttle and a 34″ vertical jump.

Ohio State offered Curry’s quarterback, Grant Gunnell, last month as well.

The Buckeyes have now offered nine receivers from the state of Texas. Ohio State may have the best shot with Garrett Wilson, who plays at Lake Travis in Austin, which is also where OSU freshman quarterback Matthew Baldwin is from. Wilson is also a Central Ohio native. Wilson is the No. 14 receiver in the nation and the No. 79 player overall.

Ohio State has also made the cutdown back in January for No. 5 receiver Theo Wease out of Allen, Texas.

The Buckeyes are still looking for their first wide receiver commitment, but with spring football and spring visits starting this month, perhaps business will begin to pick up.
