Buckeyes Make Top Group for 4-Star Texas CB Jeffery Carter

Jeffery Carter Ohio State Recruiting Buckeyes

Four-star Aledo, Texas cornerback Jeffery Carter tweeted out his Top 10 on Thursday. He included Ohio State, along with USC, Alabama, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Oregon, Penn State, Texas, and Texas A&M.

Carter tweeted out his current favorites.

Carter (6-0 180) is ranked the No. 16 cornerback in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite, and the No. 138 player overall. He is the No. 20 prospect in the state of Texas. ESPN ranks him as their No. 72 player in the 2019 class overall.

Getting Carter out of the state might be difficult, but based on his choices, he doesn’t appear to be against the idea of leaving the Longhorn State.

Ohio State offered last month. Carter has attended Junior Day events at Texas A&M and Oklahoma this winter.

In Carter’s highlights, which you can see below, Aledo does not play the press coverage that Ohio State cornerbacks become accustomed to. Many of the snaps have him 10 yards off the line of scrimmage. However, he is able to be especially effective in this coverage because of his ability to read and react. He triggers with explosion, be it against the pass or the run.

Carter can turn and run, manning his entire zone quite well. He is a physical cornerback who fights through blocks to stop running plays or screen passes. He is not the biggest or strongest cornerback, but he doesn’t care.

Ohio State has offered over a dozen cornerback prospects in the 2019 recruiting cycle. They do not yet have any verbal commitments in the secondary.

In terms of fit between OSU and Jeffery Carter, the Buckeyes have had success recruiting the state of Texas of late. In fact, they could be starting two Texas cornerbacks this season in sophomore Jeffrey Okudah and redshirt junior Kendall Sheffield.

Don’t think that topic won’t come up a time or two during Carter’s recruitment.
