One month ago, 4-star North Carolina defensive tackle (Person HS/Roxboro, NC) Joshua Harris released a Top 8 of Ohio State, Virginia Tech, Penn State, North Carolina, Clemson, Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina State. Thursday night, however, Harris announced that he is now down to five schools, eliminating Virginia Tech, Penn State, and Clemson.
Harris (6-2 316) is ranked the No. 15 defensive tackle in the 247Sports Composite and the No. 265 player in the nation overall. He has visited North Carolina and North Carolina State multiple times this spring. He has also made trips to Tennessee, Georgia, and Duke. The Buckeyes offered back in January.
Joshua Harris is a brute of a nose tackle, manhandling interior linemen on his way to the football. He has the initial burst to split defenders, but also the strength and momentum to make such things unnecessary.
The Buckeyes landed a trio of talented defensive tackles in the 2018 class. Tommy Togiai had his black stripe removed during spring camp. Antwuan Jackson did what he could this spring following surgery for a broken foot. Five-star prospect Taron Vincent will arrive in the summer and he’ll be bringing loads of expectations with him.
But Urban Meyer and Larry Johnson are still looking for more. Harris is only one of seven offers currently out to 2019 defensive tackles, so they will be very selective in this recruiting cycle.
Five-star prospect Faatui Tuitele took an unofficial to Ohio State this spring, making the trip all the way from Hawaii. USC and Alabama are two favorites here.
Ohioan Jowon Briggs (Walnut Hills/Cincinnati) is the No. 5 defensive tackle in the nation. The Buckeyes would love to add him to the 2019 class, but Notre Dame is heavily involved as well.
Apopka, Florida tackle Tyler Davis has been to Ohio State a number of times. He is the No. 10 defensive tackle in the nation and holds offers from Ohio State, Georgia, Clemson, the Florida schools, and plenty of others as well.
The Buckeyes may not take many defensive tackles in the 2019 class, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t still looking for the best in the nation.
