Monday evening in Columbus, one of the most sacred rituals in all of Ohio State football took place.
A few dozen reporters and photographers lined both sides of the entrance to a hotel near the OSU campus, and then took photos of Buckeye football players as they walked in.
The players were there to check in to the hotel, where they will stay for the duration of fall camp.
The reporters and photographers were there to document this important moment in the Buckeye football calendar.
This is, objectively speaking, more than a little weird.
It is weird enough to seem weird in a city where 100,000 people paying money to watch an intrasquad scrimmage is considered normal behavior.
The annual highlight is long-snapper Liam McCullough wearing a t-shirt with a picture from the previous year’s camp check-in on it. Now in his fourth season, this has grown from amusing into a brilliant meta-gag.
But in a summer that has been anything but normal for the Ohio State football program, McCullough’s shirt and the rest of this evening served as a brief flash of normalcy.
Totally ridiculous normalcy.
In case you weren’t engrossed in the live updates on social media as the players came in, scroll down to see what you missed.
We will have a full photo gallery from check-in available a little later tonight.
The Buckeyes will resume practice Tuesday morning at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
The first portion of the practice will be open to the media, so you can look forward to photos of many of these same gentlemen wearing different outfits in just a few hours.

I 100% knew I was going to accidentally tweet his brother’s name instead of his. And by golly, I did it. This is Max Wray, not Jake. https://t.co/qGrCZjuHCf
