Safety Bryson Shaw sent in his Letter of Intent to Ohio State on Wednesday, officially making him a member of the Buckeyes’ 2019 recruiting class.
Here’s a look at what he could mean for the future of the program.
Height: 6’2″
Weight: 175 lbs
Position: Safety
Hometown: Potomac, Maryland
247 Composite Rating: 3-star, No. 571 player overall
Position Rank: No. 47 running back
When He Committed: April 2018, after flipping his commitment from Wisconsin.
Projection: From the same high school as Dwayne Haskins, Shaw is now following the quarterback to Ohio State. And just like Haskins, who was originally committed to Maryland, Shaw was also originally headed somewhere other than Columbus.
He verballed to Wisconsin in January of 2018, and then three months later, he changed his mind and flipped to OSU. He also had offers from programs like Tennessee, West Virginia, and Penn State.
A versatile weapon for his high school program, Shaw’s highlight reel shows him doing everything from laying big hits from the safety position to carrying the ball as a running back and wildcat quarterback.
He also played lacrosse in high school, so get ready to hear a lot of inaccurate Sam Hubbard comps.
Versatile. Agile. Buckeye.

Shaw projects as a safety for the Buckeyes. When he gets on the field, look for him to play a Brendon White-style player, coming up strong in run support and delivering big shots on ball carriers.
Shaw does not plan to enroll early, which may delay his appearance on the field in the fall.
The Buckeyes have a lot of depth at the safety spot right now. Jordan Fuller still has to decide whether to return for 2019, but with Brendon White, Isaiah Pryor, Josh Proctor, Amir Riep, Shaun Wade, and others in the mix, Shaw likely won’t play much on defense as a freshman.
However, he’s the type of quick, big-hitting player who tends to make his mark on special teams early.
Look for Shaw on kick coverage in 2019, and then to make his move on the depth chart at safety after that.
