SIGNED: Steele Chambers Is Officially A Buckeye

Jim Harbaugh Steele Chambers Ohio State Football Recruiting Buckeye Football

Steele Chambers sent in his Letter of Intent to Ohio State on Wednesday, officially making him a member of the Buckeyes’ 2019 recruiting class.

Here’s a look at what he could mean for the future of the program.

Height: 6’2″

Weight: 215 lbs

Position: Athlete

Hometown: Roswell, Georgia

247 Composite Rating: 4-star, No. 240 player overall

Position Rank: No. 10 athlete

When He Committed: April 2018, over schools like Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Michigan, and Penn State.

Projection: Steele Chambers is going to be an impact player for Ohio State in a couple seasons. The big question is where.

Chambers was a standout running back and outside linebacker at Blessed Trinity Catholic High School in Georgia.

He was a three-year starter at running back, recording seasons of 1,486 yards as a sophomore, 1,301 as a junior, and 1,680 as a senior. His touchdown totals (21, 23, 25) and yards per carry numbers (7.0, 6.6, 7.2) in each season were equally impressive.

Chambers will likely get his first look at running back in Columbus. He could slot in alongside Marcus Crowley this fall, battling for playing time behind J.K. Dobbins, Master Teague, and Brian Snead.

He has the size and speed to be a very good Big Ten running back, and could make an early impact there if he ends up in the running back room.

However it’s not totally out of the question that he could end up on the defensive side of the ball instead.

He had nine tackles for loss during his senior year, picked off six passes during his high school career, both caused and recovered three fumbles, and even blocked a field goal.

The Buckeyes have two linebackers in the 2019 class already (Tommy Eichenberg and Cade Stover), and took a deep class there in 2018. So there isn’t a desperate need for Chambers to play linebacker, but it’s at least an option.

Wherever he ends up, Chambers should see action on special teams in 2019, and be solidly on the two-deep after that.
