Justin Fields Among Early Heisman Frontrunners for 2019

Justin Fields Georgia Quarterback

The 2018 college football season has been over for a week now, which means it’s time to move on and get ready for 2019, which is exactly what sportsbook BetOnline.com has done by releasing early Heisman odds for next season.

Of note for Buckeye fans is the appearance of rising sophomore transfer quarterback Justin Fields currently tied with the third-best odds at 12:1.

Fields has yet to be ruled eligible, so you might want to be careful with your spending.

As to why Fields would already be so high on the list, it doesn’t take a lot of heavy math to understand the potential.

Fields was arguably the No. 1 quarterback in the 2018 recruiting cycle, and now he’s going to be placed in a Ryan Day offense that just saw Dwayne Haskins throw for 4,831 yards and 50 touchdowns.

Fields played in 12 games for Georgia last season before transferring this month to Ohio State. He completed 27-of-39 passes for 328 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed 42 times for 266 yards and another four touchdowns.

The job won’t simply be handed over to Fields even if he is ruled eligible. Even with Tate Martell’s likely transfer, Fields will still have to compete with Matthew Baldwin, who redshirted as a true freshman this past season.

In terms of notable names missing, a year ago at this time, running back JK Dobbins was one of the favorites for the Heisman, fluctuating between 8:1 and 6:1 early on. He is not part of this list, but with the departure of Mike Weber, he could be looking at more carries in 2019.

Or, with the addition of Fields’ ability to run, perhaps Dobbins isn’t going to have the uptick people are expecting.

Clearly, however, Ryan Day’s ability to field ultra-productive quarterbacks has caught the attention of the ufabet เข้าสู่ระบบ betting community, and that probably won’t change any time soon.
