Running back Darvon Hubbard announced Thursday that he was decommitting from Ohio State’s 2020 recruiting class.
Hubbard, a 4-star prospect from Arizona, released the news on Twitter. In it, he referenced his time growing up in northeast Ohio.
“Being from Ohio, it’s been a dream of mine to play for Coach Urban Meyer. With the changes to the coaching staff, I think it is best if I open my recruitment up,” he wrote.
“I will be De-committing from The Ohio State University. This is especially hard for me to say but OSU will still be a top school of mine, but right now I feel it’s best to explore my options.”
Hubbard ranks as the No. 170 overall player in the 2020 class, and the 15th-best running back.
He had played for Scottsdale Chaparral, the same school as OSU’s 2020 quarterback commit Jack Miller.
However, last November, Hubbard transferred to Surprise Willow Canyon after his family moved. He is reportedly also considering playing for IMG Academy in Florida.
With his decommitment, the Buckeyes now have six commits for the 2020 class, including Miller.
Ryan Day and his staff have already been actively pursuing several of the top running backs in the nation, including 5-star prospects Kendall Milton and Bijan Robinson.
The Buckeyes are considered among the favorites to land one or both of them.
