Buckeye Weekly — Nebraska’s Challenges and Jim Harbaugh’s Failures

Buckeye Weekly Ohio State Football Buckeyes Podcast

In this episode of the Buckeye Weekly podcast, Tony Gerdeman and Tom Orr talk a bit about what was said during interview sessions with Ryan Day on Tuesday. This is the biggest test of the season for the Ohio State defense and the fellas talk a bit about why that is. A discussion of the Ohio State offensive advantages is also part of the show. Then the two go on a tangent about Michigan and the state of Jim Harbaugh. All of this and more.

The Rundown

Ohio State’s record at Gameday games is 31-13.

 That’s a pretty remarkable record.

Nebraska is going to pose a problem this week.

The Husker offense has speed all over the place.

This secondary is going to be tested.

Hell, the entire defense is going to be tested.

Ohio State might have the three best corners in the Big Ten.

The Buckeyes will give up some points.

Could this game be won out wide?

It’s always going to come down to the trenches.

Why didn’t the offensive line grade out as Champions?

 Seems like a ploy.

Illinois was able to run the ball against the Huskers.

That should be a concern for Nebraska.

Ohio State has a better passing game than Illinois, fwiw.

Justin Fields could start running more this week — whatever is necessary to win.

You are always playing catch up against Ohio State’s offense this year.

The Buckeyes are incredibly balanced this season.

How will the defensive line attack Adrian Martinez and his threat to run.

Facing Adrian Martinez will be a new experience for this defense.

Do we see more Baron Browning this week?

Do we see more Brendon White this week?

Let’s talk some Michigan and putting players in positions to succeed.

This was an unwinnable game for Michigan.

They are going to have to fight for eight wins.

Illinois on the road won’t be a peach for the Wolverines.

Every team they play from here on out — aside from this week at Rutgers — will feel like they can beat Michigan.

Momentum is a real thing at home and can beat troubled teams.

Our listeners knew Michigan’s defensive troubles were coming.

 Shea Patterson continues to regress.

Who was the last quarterback to progress clearly over his time as a starting quarterback at Michigan? Chad Henne? Denard Robinson maybe?

The lack of development from Jim Harbaugh has been a huge disappointment.

 A data point isn’t a trend.

 What should Michigan be?

If you think they should contend for national titles, that’s not what they are.

Jim Harbaugh can’t get them beyond what they’ve always been.

What are you paying Jim Harbaugh for?

Five years is a pretty good sample size and you know what the program is at that point.

Would Jim Harbaugh be okay leaving.

 He looks miserable.

 He seems listless and stressed.

There’s no way those coaches thought they could win that game.
