Deuces Wild — JK Dobbins, Chase Young Big Ten Players of the Week

JK Dobbins, Chase Young Ohio State Buckeyes

From an Ohio State press release.

No. 2s are No. 1 in the Big Ten This Week

J.K. Dobbins and Chase Young are the Big Ten’s offensive and defensive players of the week

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State running back J.K. Dobbins and defensive end Chase Young have been named the Big Ten Conference offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for their efforts in No. 3 Ohio State’s 38-7 victory over No. 13 Wisconsin Saturday at Ohio Stadium.

Dobbins, who wears jersey No. 2, rushed for over 100 yards for the fourth consecutive game while totaling 221 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns against a Wisconsin team that came into the game with the nation’s No. 1 overall defense, No. 1 rushing defense, No. 1 passing defense and No. 1 scoring defense.

Dobbins, a junior from LaGrange, Texas, rushed for 163 yards and scored twice to extend leads of 17-7 and 24-7. His 28 yard run during a tense, 10-7, game was the key play in that touchdown drive to answer Wisconsin’s only score of the day.  Dobbins also caught three passes for 58 yards.

Young, who also wears jersey No. 2, tied school records for tackles for loss with five and quarterback sacks with four while also forcing two fumbles and setting a personal best with six solo tackles.

Young, a junior from Upper Marlboro, Md., extended his lead nationally in quarterback sacks with 13.5 through eight games and increased his TFL total to 15.5 this season for negative 98 yards. His TFLs, TFL yardage and QB sack yardage (95 yards) also lead the nation.

In the process, Young became the only Ohio State player besides two-time All-American and Big Ten defensive lineman of the year Mike Vrabel to record at least 10 quarterback sacks in two seasons. Vrabel did it in 1994 and 1995.

Young was named the Walter Camp national defensive player of the week on Sunday.

Dobbins went over 1,000 yards on the season with his effort – he has 1,110 yards and ranks second nationally in both yards and average (138.8) – to become the first Ohio State Buckeye to top 1,000 yards rushing as a freshman, sophomore and junior. He passed Tim Spencer (3,553 rushing yards from 1979-82) to move into fourth place on Ohio State’s all-time list with Eddie George (3,768) and Ezekiel Elliott (3,961 yards) each inside of 400 yards away. Dobbins has 3,566 career rushing yards.
