Ohio State has issued a release revealing that backup quarterback candidate Joe Burrow has suffered an injury. The release reads in part as follows.
“Ohio State sophomore quarterback Joe Burrow had surgery yesterday – Tuesday, Aug. 22 – on his right hand to repair a broken bone and will be sidelined indefinitely. Burrow sustained the injury during practice on Monday. The surgery was performed at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.”
Burrow, a redshirt sophomore from The Plains, Ohio, has been locked in a close competition with redshirt freshman quarterback Dwayne Haskins to be J.T. Barrett’s backup. The injury means that Haskins will most likely be the backup for the season opener against Indiana. True freshman quarterback Tate Martell will back up Haskins.
