Four-Star Texas CB Jeffery Carter Includes Ohio State in Top Group

Jeffery Carter Ohio State Recruiting Buckeyes

Four-star Aledo, Texas cornerback Jeffery Carter tweeted out his Top 6 on Wednesday and the Buckeyes made the cut along with Alabama, Oregon, Georgia, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma.

Carter (6-0 180) trimmed his list from 10, dropping Nebraska, USC, Penn State, Texas, and Texas Tech, while adding Georgia.

Carter is ranked the No. 13 cornerback in the 2019 recruiting class per the 247Sports Composite and the No. 125 player overall.

Ohio State offered this past February. Carter has attended Junior Day events at Texas A&M and Oklahoma this winter. He took an official visit to A&M two weeks ago, and visited Oregon unofficially this past weekend.

In Carter’s highlights, which you can see below, Aledo does not play the press coverage that Ohio State cornerbacks become accustomed to. Many of the snaps have him 10 yards off the line of scrimmage. However, he is able to be especially effective in this coverage because of his ability to read and react. He triggers with explosion, be it against the pass or the run.

Carter can turn and run, manning his entire zone quite well. He is a physical cornerback who fights through blocks to stop running plays or screen passes. He is not the biggest or strongest cornerback, but he doesn’t seem to care.

The Buckeyes do not yet have any cornerbacks committed, and recently missed out on Virginia 4-star prospect Sheridan Jones.

Ohio State did make the top six for Texas cornerback Erick Young last week, however.
