Young (6-1 195) is the No. 9 cornerback in the 247Sports Composite and the No. 100 prospect overall in the 2019 class. Rivals sees Young as the No. 4 cornerback and the No. 24 prospect in the nation.
Young took an official visit to Texas A&M this past weekend and could be taking an official visit to Ohio State yet this spring.
In his highlights below, Young plays in a fairly aggressive man coverage scheme. He is safety sized with cornerback hips and gets his hands on receivers immediately. Every aspect of his game would fit in just fine with what Ohio State looks for in their corners.
Texas has been good to the Buckeyes in the past, especially at cornerback where this year Ohio State will start a pair of Lonestar State natives in Kendall Sheffield and Jeff Okudah.
The Buckeyes do not currently have any cornerbacks committed in the 2019 class, but are heavily involved with a handful of the nation’s best. Chief among them is Norfolk, Virginia’s Sheridan Jones. Jones (6-1 170) is the No. 16 corner in the nation. Three weeks ago he included Ohio State in his top seven. Jones reclassified to the 2019 class from the 2020 class. Prior to reclassifying, he was ranked the No. 1 corner in the 2020 recruiting cycle. Currently, this appears to be a Clemson-OSU battle.
The same week Jones cut his list down, so did Aledo, Texas prospect Jeffery Carter. Carter is the No. 17 cornerback in the nation per the 247Sports Composite. Like Erick Young, Carter took an official visit to Texas A&M this past weekend.
