OSU Cornerback Target Sheridan Jones Commits to Clemson

Cornerback Sheridan Jones Ohio State Recruiting Buckeyes

The allure of Ohio State’s ability to put cornerbacks into the NFL made the Buckeyes an attractive destination for Sheridan Jones, but ultimately he decided that Clemson was where he wanted to be next season and beyond. Jones, one of the top cornerbacks in the nation, committed to head coach Dabo Swinney’s Tigers on Friday. He broke the news via Twitter.

Four weeks ago, Jones (Maury HS/Norfolk VA) released a video announcing his final seven schools, which featured Clemson, Ohio State, Nebraska, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech.

Jones (6-0 170) is ranked the No. 16 cornerback in the 2019 class per the 247Sports Composite. He is ranked as the No. 138 prospect overall, and the No. 3 player in the state of Virginia.

He reclassified to the 2019 class from the 2020 class. Before reclassifying he was the No. 1 cornerback prospect in the 2020 class.

Even though things don’t look great at the moment, don’t expect the Buckeyes to strike out completely for cornerbacks in the 2019 recruiting cycle.

Earlier in the week, 4-star cornerback Erick Young revealed his top group and included Ohio State. One day before Sheridan Jones announced his top seven, Texas 4-star corner Jeffery Carter included the Buckeyes in his top group as well.

Given the amount of talent that Ohio State has brought in over the last couple of years, it may be somewhat difficult to convince the top 2019 corners to jump into a loaded position room at OSU.
