Former Ohio State quarterback Joe Burrow has now confirmed that he will transfer to LSU.
Burrow graduated from OSU in May and will be eligible to play two seasons for the Tigers, beginning this fall.
Friday night, Burrow tweeted, “Excited to be playing in Death Valley next season. Ready to get to work.”
Burrow initially announced plans to transfer on May 8, and quickly zeroed in on three possible destinations.
He visited former OSU head coach Luke Fickell and the Cincinnati Bearcats late last week.
He then made a three-day visit to LSU with his family over the weekend before making a trip to North Carolina.
If he wins the starting job with the Tigers, he would replace another Big Ten quarterback transfer as its starter.
Former Purdue Boilermaker Danny Etling started in Baton Rouge the last two seasons.
Following his departure, the quarterback position there was wide open.
Sophomore Myles Brennan got the bulk of the first-team snaps for the Tigers this spring. He threw for only 182 yards with 1 touchdown and two interceptions as a backup last fall.
Redshirt freshman Lowell Narcisse and junior Justin McMillan are also in the running for the job.
Burrow immediately becomes the frontrunner for that starting position.
Assuming he does win the job, he would start in the same stadium where he spent his last game as a Buckeye. LSU opens against the Miami Hurricanes in Arlington, Texas.
A year ago, he was considered the favorite to win the backup job behind J.T. Barrett. However, he broke a bone in his hand during 2017 fall camp and missed several weeks.
By the time he was healthy again, he was behind both Barrett and Dwayne Haskins on the depth chart.
Burrow was impressive during spring practice this year. He completed 15-of-22 passes for 238 yards and two touchdowns that day. Afterward, he sounded like he knew what he needed to hear to stay with the Buckeyes.
“I came here to play. I didn’t come here to sit on the bench for four years,” he said following the Spring Game. “I know I’m a pretty darn good quarterback and I want to play somewhere.”
In total, Burrow spent three seasons with the Buckeyes. He redshirted in 2015 and then saw limited action as a backup in 2016 and 2017.
He finished his Ohio State career with 287 passing yards and two touchdowns through the air.
Excited to be playing in Death Valley next season. Ready to get to work.
