Two-Minute Drill: Postgame Reactions From Ohio State 49-6 Over Tulane

COLUMBUS — Following Ohio State’s win over Tulane, Buckeye head coach Urban Meyer spoke with the media about the game, his team, and his return to the sidelines. Other coaches and plenty of players also spoke with reporters, with the subjects ranging from Tulane to Meyer to the upcoming game at Penn State this Saturday. You can catch all of the highlights of what was said below.

Urban Meyer

+ Meyer started by thanking the fans for today and for last week in Dallas.

+ Meyer gave the game ball to Ryan Day for everything he’s done while Meyer was away.

+ Against an option attack like Tulane you have to be assignment sound. The defense was pretty good but can get better.

+ Dwayne Haskins played well again and the offensive line gave him time to throw.

+ The receivers are playing at a high level.

+ Mike Weber strained his foot, but he should be fine.

+ The Buckeyes struggled getting the running game going again. They have to fix this.

+ It’s too early to talk about where Dwayne Haskins belongs when talking about the best QBs Meyer has ever had.

+ There was a lot of single coverage all over the place for the Buckeyes.

+ On Penn State next week, “This one’s a big one coming up.”

+ Parris Campbell had a great game and has worked hard to improve his ball skills. He caught a deep ball which is something that he has struggled with in the past.

+ If you don’t have a dual-threat quarterback, he better be an accurate thrower. Haskins is. Haskins has answered the bell each time regardless of conditions. Next week is a big game.

+ Haskins has done a very good job as a leader. “It’s just a job very well done.”

+ Meyer thanked the entire staff in the locker room. “It’s a very healthy program.” “Ryan was exactly the guy we needed.”

+ It was great to be back. He has always had a connection to Ohio State. Entering Skull Session was “somewhat overwhelming.” You can catch the entirety of Meyer’s Skull Session experience here.

+ Parris Campbell is a first-round talent but had to improve his ball skills. He has.

+ Next week will be a much different game. The defensive line played well, but this wasn’t the same kind of test.

+ Michael Jordan’s snaps were much better throughout the week in practice and in the game. They charted every snap and made an emphasis throughout the week and it paid off with better play tonight.

Dwayne Haskins

+ This is probably better than he expected to play, but he really never put too many thoughts into what he expected numbers wise.

+ Parris Campbell has always been dangerous, but he’s worked on his hands in the offseason.

+ Have thoughts now turned to Penn State? “Of for sure. We’re thinking about Penn State.”

+ What is Haskins showing people? “I just want to show how dangerous the offense is.”

+ It was great to have Urban Meyer back. You  miss having him around before games.

Jashon Cornell

+ When he is healthy, this is the kind of performance you can expect from Cornell.

+ The attitude has always been ‘next man up’ and that’s how they approached Nick Bosa’s injury.

+ It hurts everybody to see a brother go down, but they don’t even need to be told that the next man has to step up. (But they are definitely told.)

+ Penn State is the loudest place he’s ever been. You can’t hear the guy next to you.

Parris Campbell

+ Campbell doesn’t think he’s ever played with a quarterback who throws as well as Dwayne Haskins.
