Sampson James, a 4-star running back prospect from Indiana, just announced that he has verbally committed to Ohio State’s 2019 recruiting class. James just spent the weekend visiting OSU.
He announced his decision on Twitter, saying, “I’ve been dreaming of a day like this since I was a little kid and it has finally come true. I will be attending THE Ohio State University in January. I am 110% COMMITTED.”
James is considered the 8th-best running back in the class according to the 247 composite.
He is the third player to commit to the Buckeyes’ 2019 class, joining offensive linemen Doug Nester and Ryan Jacoby.
By enrolling in January, James will have the chance to go through spring practice and potentially earn a spot on the depth chart. Most observers expect redshirt junior RB Mike Weber to turn pro after this season, opening up more carries to younger players.
Even without Weber, the 2019 running back room figures to be loaded with talent. J.K. Dobbins, Antonio Williams, Master Teague, and Brian Snead will likely all be battling James for carries.
The 247 Composite ranks him as the second-best player from the state of Indiana in the 2019 class. The top-ranked player from the state, WR David Bell, is also considered a strong Buckeye lean.
Indiana has been a fertile recruiting ground for Urban Meyer and his staff in recent years. Wide receivers Terry McLaurin and Austin Mack and LB Pete Werner all hail from the Hoosier state and are expected to play significant roles on this year’s Buckeye team.

Get a Hair Cut!!!
He’s got good balance and will probably play for the Buckeyes at around 215 – 220 pounds by the time he enrolls. Good speed and power but probably needs to be more complete in his blocking skills. Great chance to be the thunder to the speed of Master Teague in a couple years.
Welcome aboard young man.
