This weekend promises to be a productive one on the Ohio State recruiting front, and the good news started Friday night with the verbal commitment of 4-star New Jersey athlete Ronnie Hickman. Hickman (Wayne NJ/DePaul Catholic) announced his commitment to Ohio State via Twitter.

Hickman (6-2 202) committed to Ohio State over offers from Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, Florida State, Florida, Nebraska, North Carolina, and Rutgers.

Ranked the No. 13 athlete in the nation per the 247Sports Composite, Hickman’s commitment did not come as a surprise, as the Buckeyes had been the favorites for a while now.

ESPN ranks Hickman as the No. 11 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 67 player in the 2019 class overall.

Prior to his commitment, Hickman detailed what he liked about Ohio State to NJ.com.

“Ohio State was my dream school. I dreamed of getting an offer from there, so when I got that I definitely had to go check that out. And it definitely surpassed my expectations, which was really good. I built a really good relationship with coach (Greg) Schiano, coach (Urban) Myer, the new safeties coach, coach (Alex) Grinch. I love what those guys are about. They also offer a lot on the academic side, too, which is something that stood out to me the most; what they offer outside of football, and not just football. Life after football is what stood out to me the most. That’s one of the reasons why they made it to my top six. They’ve always shown love throughout the whole process, as well. So I’ve got respect for them.”

Based on the coaches who have recruited him, Hickman would project to safety for the Buckeyes.

We will have more on this commitment soon.

You can check out his highlights on both sides of the ball below.
