PASADENA, Calif. — Ohio State senior wide receiver Parris Campbell just became the first Buckeye in 16 years to record 1,000 yards receiving in one season.
Campbell crossed the milestone with a 12-yard reception during the first quarter of the 2019 Rose Bowl against Washington.
He entered the game with 992 yards receiving on the year, including a career-high 192 yards in the blowout win over Michigan.
He also had big days against Tulane (147 yards) and Indiana (142).
The last Buckeye to hit the 1,000 yard mark was Michael Jenkins in 2002. David Boston (1998) and Terry Glenn (1995) and Cris Carter (1986) are the only other players to cross into four digits in a season.
With a big day in the Rose Bowl, Campbell could end up as high as No. 3 all-time on the school’s list of most receiving yards in a single season.
David Boston’s 1,435 from 1998 and Terry Glenn’s 1,411 from 1995 are probably safe. But with a 136-yard performance against Washington, he would surpass Cris Carter’s 1,127 (from 1986) and Michael Jenkins’ 1,076 (from 2002).
Campbell is now 16th all-time in career receiving yards as a Buckeye, and would pass Corey “Philly” Brown and enter the top-15 with just a 53-yard day.
This is the final game of his OSU career. Campbell is a two-time captain and has turned into one of the team’s most explosive playmakers this fall.
He entered the Rose Bowl with 11 touchdown catches, tied for the team lead with fellow senior and team captain Terry McLaurin.
That’s tied for fifth-best of all time for a single season. It’s also the most of any Buckeye receiver since Devin Smith had 12 touchdown receptions in 2014.
