Nick Bosa Will Miss Tulane Game With Injury

Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa

Ohio State junior defensive end Nick Bosa will miss the Buckeyes’ upcoming game against Tulane due to injury.

Monday, head coach Urban Meyer said that Bosa suffered an “abdominal, groin” injury early in the third quarter of the Buckeyes’ 40-28 win over TCU.

Meyer said that Bosa was undergoing further testing this week. It’s not clear how long he could be out.

Bosa was off to an incredible start before the injury.

He had 14 tackles, including six for loss and four sacks during the Buckeyes’ first two games and the first half against TCU.

Saturday, Bosa had a sack and forced a fumble from TCU quarterback Shawn Robinson. Defensive tackle Davon Hamilton recovered that fumble for the Buckeyes’ first touchdown.

The defensive line was impressive after Bosa left the game due to the injury.

Defensive tackle Dre’Mont Jones intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown just minutes after Bosa went out.

Junior defensive end Jonathon Cooper also had a sack on Saturday.

Without Bosa, Cooper and sophomore Chase Young will be the Buckeyes’ starting defensive ends.

That shouldn’t be a big deal Saturday, with the Buckeyes a 34-point favorite. However, it could be a much bigger issue a week from now when the Buckeyes travel to State College, Pa.

Penn State announced Monday that the September 29 game against the Buckeyes will kick off at 7:30 pm and air on ABC.

  1. He had surgery today (9/20) so he very well may be out until November – yikes!!! Hopefully, he will heal up faster than that, but surgery means zero chance he is available for PSU.

  2. BG- thanks for the information, I did not know that about strains. Those are tough numbers…
In other news, although the return of Tuf Borland is being heralded on this site and others, it’s plain that Borland is NOT himself. He’s clearly slower and in need of being spelled. That’s no knock on Borland, Achilles’ are awful sports injuries. Its a shame that a) he’s been herded back in when he’s not 100 percent and that b) Baron Browning at 100 percent isn’t good enough to unseat Borland. Finally, something’s up with Mike Weber too, not sure what and hope we get a real idea of what it is when the time is right. Tough, tough injuries for a trip to the place where a football team shouldn’t even exist anymore…

  3. Unfortunately, the way he looked walking back on the field Saturday, it looks like an extended recovery time may be needed. A grade 1 strain 5% or less of muscle fibers damaged) usually takes 2-3 weeks to heal, and a grade 2 (significant percentage of muscle fibers affected) can take anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months. Grade 3 strains (a tear most or all the way thru the muscle or tendon) require surgery and would result in him missing the rest of the season. My guess he is between a 1 and a 2 somewhere, but without more info being released that is just a guess.

The medical staff and trainers for the Buckeyes are very good, so hopefully, they will be able to get him healthy more quickly than the times listed above. It seems unlikely that he will be back for PSU.

According to the radio broadcast, the team returned from the locker room only about a minute prior to the start of the second half. I wonder if not having time to stretch or warm up again had anything to do with this injury?

Go Bucks, and get well soon Nick.
