WATCH: Buckeyes React To Rose Bowl Selection

Urban Meyer postgame interview Big Ten Championship

The Ohio State Buckeyes are headed to the Rose Bowl for the first time since the 2009 season.

OSU won the Big Ten Championship Saturday night with a 45-24 win over Northwestern in Indianapolis.

However, Sunday the College Football Playoff Committee voted the Buckeyes No. 6 in the nation, behind Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Georgia.

That may have been a bit disappointing for some, although not necessarily surprising.

That means the Buckeyes will head west to Pasadena for a traditional revival of the Granddaddy of Them All, pitting the Big Ten champion Bucks against Pac-12 champion Washington.

It will be the first Rose Bowl trip for OSU head coach Urban Meyer, who grew up revering the tradition on New Year’s Day.

Sunday afternoon, Meyer met with the media to discuss the season, and what lays ahead for his team.

You can watch his press conference below.

  1. Makes exactly no difference with Gene Smith. He’s excluded from debate on Ohio State….and he damned well should be excluded from any debate concerning Notre Dame. Urban Meyers first priority are the kids he’s in charge of. Athletic Directors come a dime a dozen. If Gene Smith doesn’t like it, he can GFH.

The last part of your statement makes utterly no sense, and not worth responding to.

OU is the 124th ranked defense. That’s ranked exactly 31 spots below where the Buckeye defense finished. That they included ND is about as lame as it gets. Then to see a 2 loss Georgia cream puff ranked ahead of the Buckeyes after losing their their CCG and earlier getting trounced by an over rated LSU by 20?

  2. The Buckeyes didn’t deserve to be in the 4 team playoff, because of their lose to Purdue and how bad the defense was all year. But in my opinion neither did Notre Dame. Take a look at their schedule and the scores of their wins , (Ball State) and they beat the TUN by 7 points, while the Bucks destroyed them.I don’t agree with independents , with no conference being in the same conversation as other teams who must play tough conference games and must now schedule tougher non conference games to even get a look by the committee. Also the real slap in the face to the Bucks in my opinion, was how the committee had the nerve to rank Georgia with 2 loses ahead of OSU !

  3. Buckeyes put there selves in this predicament by getting blown out the last 2 years by unranked teams!Simple solution, don’t get blowed out by average teams when you are ranked in top 5! Congrats Buckeyes on back to back BIG championships and good luck in Rose Bowl

  4. The unwillingness to challenge what is an obvious bias based committee is EXACTLY what gives those clowns the entitlement to BE biased in the first place.

Contrary to this new age limited thought process generation………..there has ALWAYS been bullies. In this day and age kids commit suicide, or run away in fright. Back in the old days bullies were stopped when one of those being bullied stepped up and took the bully on. Sometimes and maybe even often, the “bullied” didn’t even have to kick the crap out of the bully. Just standing up and refusing to BE bullied was enough to send the bully onto another target.

This worthless college football playoff committee CREATED a political bully. They are going to run rough shod over any program that allows their nonsensical drivel combined with the SEC Network (ESPN) to propagate.

Bo Schembechler had exactly the right demeanor when they were passed over for the Rose Bowl one year………….his comments should be a model for dealing publicly with a bully. He stood up and in no uncertain terms stated that he was “bitterly disappointed.” He laid the groundwork for changing the framework of how the Big 10 selection process would work going forward. Kneeling down in front of the NCAA and committee simply means that Urban is going to stand idly by and allow his program to be bullied by a gerrymandering political bully. It’s exactly the WRONG way to do things. At least have the guts to stand up to them, while at the same time defending your program…….and by proxy, the Conference.

    1. James Mills, you do know his boss is on the Playoff Committee? Most people with common sense don’t sh*t where they eat. They don’t bite the hand that feeds. Especially coming off a season where you’ve already very publicly butted heads with your Boss’s Boss. Ps: WE FREAKIN LOST BY 29 TO PURFRICKINDUE! Gave up over 50 to Maryland. We had results that resembled video games. Yeah yeah great for offense; not so much for defense. You’re like the parent who wants to yell at the coach for cutting your kid, when your kid skipped every practice.
