Ohio State / Illinois Football Game Cancelled

Ohio State pauses team-related activities; game was set for noon Saturday at Champaign, Ill.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The football game between No. 3 Ohio State University and the University of Illinois, scheduled for this Saturday at 12 noon (EST) in Champaign, Ill., has been cancelled by Ohio State University after further positive tests for the coronavirus were discovered after a round of PCR testing this afternoon.

The Department of Athletics has paused all team-related football activities. The decision to cancel and pause was made jointly by Director of Athletics Gene Smith, University President Kristina M. Johnson, head team physician Dr. Jim Borchers and in consultation with the Big Ten Conference.

“We have continued to experience an increase in positive tests over the course of this week,” Smith said. “The health, safety and well-being of our student-athlete is our main concern, and our decisions on their welfare will continue to be guided by our medical staff.”

The program will resume its team activities when its medical staff determines it is safe to do so based on protocols established by the Big Ten Conference.

  1. Covid is a ruse. It’s real as a virus but used to control and dictate people. Masks part of the game plan. I don’t and will not wear masks. I go to places that don’t require or make a big deal about them.

  2. Rick—-if you have any common sense you also know that CASE #’s are increasing because unlike March, we now have testing being done…and yes, #’s were and are being overblown with how they are coded..
All that said, just praying OSU can finish the season and get into the Big Ten and national playoffs..go Bucks!

    1. Todd, I see you are still spreading the lie that the current state we are in is due to more testing. This propaganda has been exposed by dozens of scientific groups.
Testing does not increase the RATE of positives, testing does not increase HOSPITALIZATIONS, and testing does not increase DEATH, but all three are on the rise. Face it, your assessment 7 months ago was wrong, and you and the other anti-science people in your echo chamber are partially to blame for what is occurring today.

  3. I think this game was already cancelled on Wednesday. The school just didn’t want to let everyone know. I highly doubt the team was going to get on at least two planes for social distancing early this morning and be ready to play an 11AM Central time game with little to no warm up and risk injury. All the equipment would have had to be loaded on the planes some time last night.

Now are they going to release the names of the players who tested positive?

  4. the big ten’s ridiculously stupid rule of sitting out 21 days needs to be revised..even the hospital I work at you only wait 10 days..their stupidity waiting so long to play and not having bye weeks like the SEC in case this stuff happens may ruin the season for OSU.,

    1. Two months ago the conference reversed their decision to allow football to be played this year. We all knew they only did that to make OSU happy. Now if they change the rules when players can return to the field going from sitting out 21 days to anything less will again be looked at as trying to get Ohio State into the playoffs.

    2. Yeah Todd, weren’t you the one assuring us Covid was being overblown in March? Let us know where you work so we can avoid going somewhere that would hire someone sooooooo delusional.

      1. Rick–stop drinking the CNN koolaid due….please tell me how many college-age people are dying from covid–how many are even hospitalized? do you know anything at all, as I do, about how covid cases are –wrognly–coded upping the death count? do you know that the flu is deadlier than covid for the vast majority of people under 70? …cases do not equal morbidity and massive sickness ..about 99.8% of people who get this survive…..so I’m going to say YOU are the kool-aid drinking delusional one here……..and I’m not saying the Big Ten will change their policy but they houldnt have had a 21 day policy and no bye weeks to begin with….and coaches have 10 days and players 21–makes no logical sense–kinda like Rick

  5. Well no big shock here. I been holding my breath, just waiting for this. Now wait for the complaining to start about not making the playoffs.
