J.T. Barrett ‘Looks Great’, Expected to Be Ready for Saturday

Despite leaving last Saturday’s game against Michigan with a knee injury, Ohio State starting quarterback J.T. Barrett was confident after OSU’s win over the Wolverines that he would be ready for Wisconsin and the Big Ten Championship Game in one week.

“Yeah, I’ll play next week,” he said without hesitation.

On Sunday, however, Barrett was not yet practicing.

Players are given Mondays off, so Tuesday’s practice was an opportunity to find out just where Barrett stood.

“He looks great,” said freshman running back J.K. Dobbins, adding that Barrett was running just fine.

“He’s going to be alright,” left tackle Jamarco Jones added. “He’ll be ready when Saturday comes.”

Redshirt freshman Dwayne Haskins got the No. 1 reps on Sunday, and he will continue to get plenty of reps leading up to Saturday’s game against one of the best defenses in the nation.

This plan is two-fold in that it gives Haskins necessary reps, but it also allows Barrett to be brought back carefully so that he is as healthy as he can be when the Buckeyes and Badgers finally kick off.

“He looks good. Good attitude. Working good,” said offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson. “We’re being just smart with the volume so we make sure that he’s there by Saturday. He looks good.”

  1. J.T. should be good to go. But, the question will be for how long? Personally with a similar knee problem, I can’t remember ever coming out of ahmad for it. He must have gotten really dinged. I knew how to pop my knee out without any pain or injury. J.T… dude, sit on the ground, bring your knee towards your chest, pull firmly on the end of you foot. That used to pop my knee right back in. Who knows, it might work for you.

  2. Tony has anyone been able to watch JT practice this week as by now Thursday’s practice should be over so 1 day left?

Story is coming out that JT had surgery on Sunday. I just can not see having JT or anybody playing a rugged championship game 6 days after having part of your leg operated on.

I do not know if the story is true, but if it is do you or your staff see JT starting or even playing in this game Saturday? Man I love to win, but I would hope if I was coaching that I would be strong enough not to play a player 6 days after having surgery.

We coached up Cardale Jones very well under the exact same time period so I think we can do that again with Haskins and Burrows.

Go Bucks and best of health to you JT.

    1. The kind of surgery he had does not necessarily rule him out, but if Barrett wasn’t playing, Urban Meyer would never announce it before the game.

  3. I think I have the same knee problem as JT. It pops out (and hurts) when it bears weight on the ground. Then, after an adjustment, I can go jog and make cuts even on the same day. I bet JT feels vulnerable and guarded – I sure do. I am wishing the whole team the best! Beat Wisc!

  4. Hmmm…is he live, or is he Memorex? Guess we’ll find out Saturday. Given the recent revelations about JT’s knee issue, I would hope Dwayne Haskins was getting plenty of reps in practice before this week.

    1. Previous articles stated that he is getting more reps this week, and that in some cases he is splitting his reps with JTB.

      1. Yes, I said PREVIOUS to this week- that knee was hurting well before UM.
