Joey Burrow Injures Throwing Hand

Ohio State has issued a release revealing that backup quarterback candidate Joe Burrow has suffered an injury. The release reads in part as follows.

“Ohio State sophomore quarterback Joe Burrow had surgery yesterday – Tuesday, Aug. 22 – on his right hand to repair a broken bone and will be sidelined indefinitely. Burrow sustained the injury during practice on Monday. The surgery was performed at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.”

Burrow has been locked in a close competition with redshirt freshman quarterback Dwayne Haskins for the backup quarterback spot. The injury means that Haskins will most likely be the backup for the season-opener against Indiana. True-freshman quarterback Tate Martell will back up Haskins.
