Nine of the 10 Ohio State football assistant coaches met with reporters on Wednesday to put a cap on spring football and take a look forward to the coming months for the Buckeyes. Has a decision been made at quarterback? Why was Isaiah Prince back at right tackle in the spring game? How tough is it to…
Urban Meyer said this week that the Buckeyes are still waiting for a starter to emerge at boundary safety. Currently, that position is being manned by sophomores Isaiah Pryor, Brendon White, and Jahsen Wint. Given that this position is often that last line of defense deep down the field, there is understandably…
While the Ohio State football team is mired in a three-man competition at quarterback, true freshman quarterback Matthew Baldwin is getting a front-row seat to the goings-on. Still recovering from an ACL tear that he suffered as a senior at Lake Travis High School, Baldwin is watching first hand what his future holds once he is healthy.
Urban Meyer said this spring that the Ohio State receivers were good last year, but this year they need to be elite. With every contributor returning from last season, if the group does not show improvement this season, that would be a gigantic disappointment. As a group, the Buckeyes’ top six receivers combined…
For college coaches, the emblem that they wear on their polo shirt or pullover while on recruiting trips can act as a skeleton key. Logos can open doors with barely a knock and how-do-you-do. When the Ohio State football coaches go into high schools or homes, their mere presence is an event. Doors swing open, hands…
One of the differences between Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer’s football philosophies is that Meyer has chosen to have more offensive linemen on the roster than Tressel generally had. When he arrived at OSU, Meyer set about increasing the annual number of scholarship linemen per year by a couple, which gives the coaches…
Isaiah Pryor stood in the locker room after Ohio State’s Cotton Bowl win over USC last season and knew that the future was now his. With the graduation of safety Damon Webb, Pryor was now the next in line. He had backed up Webb all season long as a true freshman at free safety, and now he was ready to take the torch.
Robert Lawrence Stine, better known in literary circles as R.L. Stine, is a native Ohioan from Columbus, and a proud graduate of The Ohio State University. While Stine is a novelist with a focus on children’s literature, one might apply the quote above as we move onto the next position group to review, the 2018 Ohio State defensive backs.
The Buckeyes were back on the practice field for the fourth time during spring camp. Media was not permitted to attend, but afterward reporters spoke with some of the Ohio State quarterbacks and safeties, including Dwayne Haskins, Tate Martell, Jordan Fuller, and Isaiah Pryor. Assistant coaches Ryan Day and…
Ohio State will be replacing two-year starter Damon Webb at free/field/falcon safety this season, and they will have to do it with a player who possesses superb coverage skills. Junior Jordan Fuller returns for his second year of starting at strong/boundary/deep/post safety, and the Buckeyes look to be in pretty good hands there.
