Ohio State sophomore running back J.K. Dobbins rushed for 1,403 yards as a true freshman last season. He was named a Second-Team All-B1G selection for his efforts. One year earlier, Mike Weber was also named Second-Team All-Big Ten following a redshirt freshman performance of 1,096 yards rushing. Combined with…
We are now embarking on a new era in Ohio State football. One where a Buckeye quarterback isn’t necessarily the first option inside the 10-yard line. Maybe. With J.T. Barrett’s departure, I got to thinking about what this was going to mean for touchdown production in 2018. We all know that Dwayne Haskins won’t…
Some coaches have trouble deciding which players to play because their choices are limited. Picking and choosing could sometimes be better described as scouring and scrounging. They are often looking for “Door No. 3” because they don’t like their first two options. As you might expect, Ohio State running backs coach…
Ohio State has two running backs on the 2018 team who have rushed for 1,000 yards in a season. That is something that most other teams can’t say. Mike Weber rushed for 1,096 yards in 2016 as a redshirt freshman and J.K. Dobbins rushed for 1,403 yards last season as a true freshman. The Buckeye backfield is the envy…
Ohio State offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson has been around and has run a variety of offenses in his time. He’s had run-first quarterbacks, pass-only quarterbacks, and dual threats that allowed him to be whatever he wanted whenever he wanted it. So while moving from a dual-threat quarterback like J.T. Barrett…
Before anyone gets any ideas that this article is going to include a DeLorean that can double as a time machine, I can tell you that the answer is no. I did not rely upon Marty McFly or Dr. Emmett Brown for going back in time, but I am going to use the example illustrated in the “Back To The Future” movie series to…
At some point in the next week or two, a first-year Ohio State football player will likely join an exclusive club, becoming the first player in his class to lose his black stripe. Every season since Urban Meyer arrived in Columbus in 2012, first-year players in the Ohio State football program have started their careers with…
Many defensive lines in football have strong sides and weak sides. The strong-side defensive end is usually the bigger, stronger guy because he may have to deal with an offense running to his side of the line due to the extra blocker in the tight end. The weak-side defensive end is usually the faster, more agile pass rusher.
Why did I rank the running backs as an area of low concern? In a theme similar to the previous position group ranking for defensive line, the returning talent and depth at the running back position group makes me comfortable going into the 2018 season. Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer and running backs coach Tony…
Tony Alford and his Ohio State running backs will enter the spring with four scholarship players in J.K. Dobbins, Mike Weber, Antonio Williams, and true freshman Master Teague. It’s a deep group that is going to get even deeper in the summer. It is also a group with more production than most programs. The Buckeyes are…
