After successfully warding off new Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel from plucking Ohio State co-offensive coordinator Ryan Day from Urban Meyer’s Ohio State staff, it appears as though Meyer was not so fortunate in keeping the former Buckeye defensive end from luring OSU cornerbacks coach Kerry Coombs to the NFL.
Ohio State cornerbacks have been very, very good to the NFL over the last 20 years or so, but they have really ramped it up since Urban Meyer and Kerry Coombs arrived. Over the last 21 years, the Buckeyes have produced 10 first-round draft picks at cornerback. In the spring, Denzel Ward is expected to make that 11 first rounders.
The rumors started on December 8. That was the day that junior cornerback Denzel Ward was one of eight Buckeyes expected to be made available to speak with the media. Ward never made it. His absence provided a hint of an answer to the questions that he was going to face. With more and more NFL prospects skipping their…
Following practice on Tuesday, Ohio State assistant coaches Kevin Wilson and Kerry Coombs spoke with the media, as did players J.K. And two, it shows you during your second practice which players can step up when they are completely beat and tired. There are some diminishing returns when it comes to two-a-days, however, because…
Once something is established, it’s hard to go away from it. That’s why Urban Meyer is so adamant about building the culture at Ohio State and relying on it to replenish itself year after year. One such recent establishment for the Buckeyes is the three-man rotation at cornerback. Finally born a year ago, cornerbacks…
