Before Urban Meyer got to Ohio State, he had never actually had a 1,000-yard rusher at tailback. This fueled questions about whether his offense was limiting what a running back could do in his offense. The thought was that Meyer was more interested in splitting carries among running backs, the quarterback…
Mike Weber had a very good season last year, rushing for 1,096 yards for the Buckeyes as a redshirt freshman. You’d take that every year from a redshirt freshman. The problem for Weber, however, was that he left a lot of yards on the field, not to mention his 1,096 yards were coming on the heels of consecutive…
They say when you have two quarterbacks, you don’t have one. When you have two running backs, however, you should probably use them. More and more in both college and professional football, the running game is being split between two running backs, which keeps the wear and tear from building up too much…
Ohio State football camp begins in three days. In fact, 72 hours from now, the first practice will have been over for nearly three hours. But we’ve still got some time to kill. For me, I’ve still got time to write these, and for you, you’ve still got time to read them. Soon, however, we won’t have time. Our hours will be consumed…
There are some very good running backs in the Big Ten this season, but they are all playing second fiddle to Penn State’s Saquon Barkley. This means that every team in the B1G is also playing second fiddle to the Penn State running backs. Second fiddle ain’t so bad. I like fiddles. There are also going to be some new…
The No. 1 player on this list is just the third Ohio State freshman to ever rush for 1,000 yards in a season. Of course, that number is a little specious because it was his second year on campus, but let us digress. Mike Weber was arguably the most-consistent skill player on the Ohio State football team last year, but there were…
The Maxwell Football Club today announced its watch lists for the 81st annual Maxwell Award and the 23rd annual Chuck Bednarik Award, and multiple Ohio State Buckeyes are on the radar for the organization’s respective player of the year and defensive player of the year awards. A pair of fifth-year seniors – quarterback J.T. Barrett and defensive end Tyquan Lewis…
With as much turnover as Ohio State football is used to having, it is always good to have someone returning who you know will produce. It is even better when you have two or three guys sitting right behind the starter who look like they could contribute immediately. I don’t think there is any question on whether…
You can’t really take a walk down the internet without running into an NFL mock draft these days. And you almost can’t be a Buckeye without eventually having your name mentioned inside one of those drafts. Even though we’ve just hit our second week of summer, the mock draft season is year round. With that…
The Ohio State Buckeyes are the most-talented team in the Big Ten, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t question marks. No team is perfect. In fact, it’s overcoming their flaws that makes great teams unforgettable. Did the 2002 Buckeye offense have any business winning a national title? No. Did the 2014 defense…
As we continue our positional breakdowns of players who could step into prominent roles this season, it is now time to take a look at the Ohio State running game. With last year’s leading rusher Mike Weber returning, the Buckeyes will look to replace the production left from the 700+ yards Curtis Samuel contributed.
