There is a misconception among some Buckeye fans that sophomore running back J.K. Dobbins doesn’t have the speed to hit home runs. They have this belief because they saw him get tracked down from behind a few times last season. Dobbins did have issues with finishing on his big hits last season, but he spent the…
If the day comes when Urban Meyer calls you up on the phone and offers you a job as an assistant coach, before you accept it, you better understand that you are going to have to recruit at an elite level. Now, you’ll have a top-notch product to sell, but it’s not going to sell itself. Or is it? When talking this spring about…
The world of Ohio State football is going to be vastly different this year. While this group of Buckeyes is as talented as any ever before it, Urban Meyer’s short-yardage security blanket is now off to the NFL. J.T. Barrett on third- or fourth-and-short is no longer an option this season for the OSU offense and it is going…
Tapping into my inner Tony and without doing the research, I’d assume there are not many running back rooms around the country which consists of two former 1,000-yard rushers. I’d assume there are even less that had both of those guys rush for over 1,000 yards in their respective freshman seasons. Going into last season…
Ohio State sophomore running back J.K. Dobbins rushed for 1,403 yards as a true freshman last season. He was named a Second-Team All-B1G selection for his efforts. One year earlier, Mike Weber was also named Second-Team All-Big Ten following a redshirt freshman performance of 1,096 yards rushing. Combined with…
We are now embarking on a new era in Ohio State football. One where a Buckeye quarterback isn’t necessarily the first option inside the 10-yard line. Maybe. With J.T. Barrett’s departure, I got to thinking about what this was going to mean for touchdown production in 2018. We all know that Dwayne Haskins won’t…
Some coaches have trouble deciding which players to play because their choices are limited. Picking and choosing could sometimes be better described as scouring and scrounging. They are often looking for “Door No. 3” because they don’t like their first two options. As you might expect, Ohio State running backs coach…
Last season wasn’t what Mike Weber envisioned for himself. A hamstring injury slowed his start and stunted his progress. He was forced to give way to freshman J.K. Dobbins and was never able to reclaim his spot. He still finished 14th in the Big Ten in rushing (626 yards) and 10th in scoring among non-kickers.
Ohio State has two running backs on the 2018 team who have rushed for 1,000 yards in a season. That is something that most other teams can’t say. Mike Weber rushed for 1,096 yards in 2016 as a redshirt freshman and J.K. Dobbins rushed for 1,403 yards last season as a true freshman. The Buckeye backfield is the envy…
Ohio State offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson has been around and has run a variety of offenses in his time. He’s had run-first quarterbacks, pass-only quarterbacks, and dual threats that allowed him to be whatever he wanted whenever he wanted it. So while moving from a dual-threat quarterback like J.T. Barrett…
Before anyone gets any ideas that this article is going to include a DeLorean that can double as a time machine, I can tell you that the answer is no. I did not rely upon Marty McFly or Dr. Emmett Brown for going back in time, but I am going to use the example illustrated in the “Back To The Future” movie series to…
