Ohio State needs to find four new starters on the offensive line this season, and of the likely new starters, nobody has less experience than redshirt freshman tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere. Petit-Frere was a 5-star signee in the 2018 class as a top 10 prospect and came to Columbus with very high expectations. Those expectations weren’t to the point…
Fall camp gets underway for the Buckeyes on Friday and every single Ohio State position coach will have a mental list of things that they need to get done. In fact, they may actually have a physical list as well. Speculating as to what might be on each assistant coach’s list is always a fun exercise, and there are no shortages of items that will need to be addressed.
Last year, the Buckeyes had a star emerge at quarterback as Dwayne Haskins set all kinds of Ohio State passing records. The year before, it was freshman running back JK Dobbins. In 2016, you saw Malik Hooker, Curtis Samuel, Marshon Lattimore, Nick Bosa and I can’t even remember who else become stars. It happens every year. New stars take over…
The Buckeyes lost a couple of key players to injury this spring. Redshirt freshman wide receiver Kamryn Babb torn an ACL and fifth-year senior linebacker Justin Hilliard suffered an Achilles injury. Both players were expected to contribute in a variety of ways this season. Both players have also spent much of their respective Ohio State careers…
The Buckeyes went about replacing four starters on the offensive line this spring, but that turned into being without all five of last year’s starters as junior left tackle Thayer Munford missed camp with back injury. Good work was had by the healthy linemen, and several stakes have been claimed for starting spots. The coaches like what they have…
Every year, new Buckeyes emerge and climb the depth charts of the Ohio State offense and defense. It is a necessary progression which then allows the program to replace departed stars and reestablish any loss of depth. Spring football is significant portion of that player development and progression, and it always provides a few glimpses…
Nicholas Petit-Frere is living the American dream one bacon sandwich at a time. Actually, make that two bacon sandwiches. And yes, that second sandwich needs to have kielbasa on it as well. And egg is understood. It should not have to be requested. In fact, let’s go ahead and make that the rule for bacon as well. You see, Petit-Frere…
The Ohio State football team has a lot of questions to answer before this fall if they want to be a national championship contender. On offense, that all starts up front with the line. The Bucks lost three starters and have another sitting out the spring with a bad back. So how will they replace Michael Jordan, Malcolm Pridgeon, and…
It’s a question as old as time (early on during a football camp) — how are the young guys looking? Everybody wants to know about the young guys because we all think we already know about the older guys. We want new news. We’re not the only ones, however, because coaches love it when there are young guys to talk about, even if…
In college football, players must emerge every spring in order to replace departed teammates. For Ohio State, this generally works out, thanks to tireless recruiting, but it’s not foolproof. There have certainly been times when the Buckeyes have left the spring with coaches still wondering who who was going to fill out their…
Nicholas Petit-Frere came to Ohio State from Berkeley Prep in Tampa, Florida. He was the No. 1 offensive tackle prospect in the 2018 class and the No. 7 player overall. He signed with the Buckeyes over offers from all of the nation’s top powers, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Texas, and many others.
