Urban Meyer is stepping down as the head ball coach and Ryan Day will take over after the Rose Bowl. There’s been a Heisman Trophy ceremony and if you were one of the thousands of people who thought there were only two finalists (because you read a national media outlet’s social media posts) you might be surprised…
Part of the reason Ryan Day got the job as Ohio State’s next head football coach is because much of his vision of the program is already in place. There is no need to uproot what has grown tall and strong. OSU athletic director Gene Smith said the seamlessness of the transition was something that was very important in…
Ohio State and Washington came into the 2018 season with playoff hopes, yet both teams fell short. The last time either team was in the 4-team College Football Playoff was also the last time they were both in it, which was the 2016 season. Despite missing the playoffs for a second year in a row, both teams come into…
Taking over Urban Meyer’s program is a daunting task. The only coach who has done it successfully so far is Utah’s Kyle Whittingham. Ryan Day now becomes the latest to join the likes of Whittingham, Gregg Brandon at Bowling Green, and Will Muschamp at Florida. Ohio State is obviously hoping that Day is much…
Congratulations to Urban Meyer as he readies to leave the sidelines as Ohio State’s head coach following the 2019 Rose Bowl game versus Washington. If someone had told me back on November 28, 2011, that I would have Urban Meyer for only seven years, but I would get one national championship, plus seven straight wins…
When Urban Meyer was hired in November of 2011, the Buckeyes had two head coaches for about a month while Luke Fickell prepared the team for the Gator Bowl. This year, Ohio State once again has a pair of head coaches, with both Meyer and new head coach Ryan Day preparing the Buckeyes for the Rose Bowl.
Ohio State’s social media team released a video on Wednesday thanking Urban Meyer for everything, but mostly for why he did what he did. The video contains several behind-the-scenes moments between Meyer and his players and shows why he said the one thing he’ll miss more than any other during retirement is his players.
In the coaching world, timing is everything. Urban Meyer stepping away from Florida in 2011 made him available to take over at Ohio State in 2012. Without Meyer, perhaps Buckeye fans would have had to accept Bo Pelini or Luke Fickell as their new head coach. While both would have been just fine at Ohio…
COLUMBUS — Urban Meyer was ready to retire and step down from coaching the Ohio State football program. There wasn’t necessarily a precise moment when he knew he was ready, but by Monday he had come to terms with his decision. While his health played a huge part in his overall decision to retire this year, the…
COLUMBUS — The Ohio State University announced on Tuesday that head football coach Urban Meyer would be retiring after the Rose Bowl on January 1 and offensive coordinator Ryan Day would move forward as the Buckeyes’ new head coach. On Tuesday afternoon, both Meyer and Day spoke with reporters, as did…
Urban Meyer led the Buckeyes to one national title, two College Football Playoff appearances, three Big Ten titles, and a 7-0 record against Michigan. Tuesday, Meyer announced that he is retiring as Ohio State’s head football coach. Offensive coordinator Ryan Day, who served as the interim head coach during Meyer’s three-game suspension at the beginning of the season, will take over as the full-time head coach.
Meyer will coach his final game with the Buckeyes at the 2019 Rose Bowl against Washington…
