Four-star Houston (Lamar HS) wide receiver Al’Vonte Woodard released his Top 5 late Thursday and the Buckeyes joined LSU, Ole Miss, Texas, and Texas A&M on the list.
Woodard (6-1 193) also holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Miami, and Tennessee. He is ranked the No. 12 receiver in the nation per the 247Sports Composite.
At a recent combine he ran a 4.52 40-yard dash and a 4.26 shuttle. For his performance, he received an invite to The Opening in July.
Woodard is a talented downfield prospect who excels at getting separation against man coverage. He is strong for a receiver and can fight off defenders and also break tackles. As a junior last season, he caught 35 passes for 792 yards and 14 touchdowns. As a sophomore he caught 25 passes for 503 yards and five touchdowns.
Ohio State does not yet have a wide receiver committed in the 2018 class, though Westerville, Ohio running back Jaelen Gill does project as an H-back for the Buckeyes. They have their sights set on a number of talented receivers from around the nation, but it doesn’t appear any of them are in a hurry to make their decisions known.
