Mere days after head coach Chris Holtmann received a commitment from 2017 small forward Kyle Young, 2018 shooting guard Dane Goodwin has decommitted from Ohio State.

The news was first reported by Zach Fleer of 270Hoops.com.

Goodwin, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Upper Arlington, Ohio, is rated the No. 16 player at his position per the 247Sports Composite.

This decommitment comes as a surprise to most because Goodwin stuck with the Buckeyes through Thad Matta’s firing and had previously said that he would wait and see who Ohio State hires. Apparently, the waiting has come and gone with Goodwin now visiting other schools and reopening his recruiting. The Buckeyes will still be heavily involved, but now the 2018 recruiting class has dwindled down to zero commitments.

Ohio State fans shouldn’t panic yet, but this is certainly concerning. The 2018 class is deep in terms of Ohio talent, and Chris Holtmann and his coaching staff have already been out and about making offers.

For Goodwin and Ohio State, a new relationship will need to be forged. That process has already begun, but now the competition is much more wide open that it was before.
