Thompson (6-4 291) is the No. 2 defensive tackle in the 2018 class per the 247Sports Composite. He is also ranked as the No. 43 player overall. He plays for Parkway North High School in St. Louis, Missouri. He is the No. 1 player in the state per the Composite.
Thompson was named a Second-Team All-State following his junior season where he finished with 14 quarterback sacks. He plays defensive end and left tackle for Parkway North, which gives you an idea of his overall athleticism. He has no problem chasing down a play or pulling on a run, so he doesn’t exactly project as a plodding nose tackle in college.
Currently, Missouri possesses 100% of the Crystal Ball projections on 247Sports.
Ohio State already has a verbal commitment from Taron Vincent, who is the No. 1 defensive tackle in the nation. The Buckeyes also have a verbal commitment from Matthew Jones out of Brooklyn. Jones was ranked as the No. 3 defensive tackle in the class, but Ohio State is looking at him as an offensive lineman. As such, he is now the No. 3 offensive guard in the nation.
Ohio State also has a commitment from 4-star defensive end Brenton Cox, and they are after Micah Parsons and Tyreke Smith at that position as well. While Thompson might be a long shot, Parsons and Smith have much better odds of ending up as Buckeyes.
