Four-Star Ohio Receiver Blue Smith Deciding in One Week

L'Christian Smith (Blue Smith) Ohio State Recruiting

Four-star Wayne High School (Dayton, OH) wide receiver L’Christian “Blue” Smith will be making his college decision public one week from today. He will be making his announcement during Wayne’s nationally-broadcast game against Pine-Richland (Pa.) on ESPN. The game is set to kickoff at 1:30 pm.

The announcement has been in the works for over a month now, so the August 27 date isn’t news, but the anticipation is clearly growing. He will be choosing from Ohio State, Kentucky, and Cincinnati.

Smith is ranked the No. 3 athlete in the nation, and at 6-foot-6 and 210 pounds, he presents quite a matchup problem for opposing defensive backs.

When he attended one of Ohio State’s June camps this summer, Smith had nothing but good things to say about the Buckeyes.

“Same impression I always leave here with — it’s the place to be,” he said.

“I can’t even explain it. Anybody that hasn’t been here, if you come up here, you’ll understand why it’s the place to be. Go to a football game. Trust me, it’s the place to be.”

Ohio State had fallen out of favor with Smith a few months back because there were rumors that the Buckeyes were looking at him as a tight end, but Urban Meyer was quickly able to diffuse the situation.

“When I went up there he just wanted to let me know that, ‘Wide receiver, that’s what we wanted to bring you here for,’” he said. “But it’s all about development. Say I get taller and gain a few pounds, and then I become a tight end. You never know. He gave me two plans. So if I stay this size, I’m a wide receiver. If I get bigger, I’m a tight end. That’s pretty much what he told me, so we’ll go with it.”

Once he and Meyer cleared the air, the Buckeyes regained their positive footing. We’ll find out in one week if that footing was strong enough to hold.
