Jaylen McCollough Ohio State Recruiting Buckeyes

With the 2018 recruiting class almost wrapped up, and the initial 2019 signing day 11 months away, focus turns to the next wave of prospects, and one of the nation’s best safeties has trimmed his list and the Buckeyes have made the cut.

Jaylen McCollough (Hillgrove High School/Powder Springs, GA) released his Top 7 via Twitter Friday night, and Ohio State was joined by Florida State, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, and South Carolina.

McCollough (6-1 190) is the No. 4 safety in the 2019 class and the No. 59 overall player per the 247Sports Composite. He visited Ohio State for last season’s win over Penn State.

An Honorable Mention All-State selection this past season as a junior, McCollough is a physical defender who plays more linebacker than safety, but projects into the defensive backfield in college. McCollough is also a very talented running back.

McCollough is one of eight 2019 safeties offered by the Buckeyes so far. That number includes 5-star prospects Brian Williams out of Dallas, Texas, and Daxton Hill out of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Ohio State, of course, had some success recruiting Oklahoma safeties in the 2018 cycle, signing Josh Proctor out of Owasso High School.
