Report: Keita Bates-Diop Will Declare Himself Eligible for NBA Draft

OSU junior forward Keita Bates-Diop will declare himself eligible for the NBA Draft, according to a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Neither OSU not Bates-Diop has confirmed the news, but a news conference is expected to happen sometime Monday.

It’s not clear whether Bates-Diop has hired an agent. If not, he could still withdraw his name from draft eligibility before May 30 and return for his final season with the Buckeyes.

He has been projected to go in the middle or late first round in several recent mock drafts.

Bates-Diop averaged 19.8 points and 8.7 rebounds per game during the 2017-18 season.

He was named the Big Ten Conference Player Of The Year.

TheOzone will have updates on this story later today as more information becomes available.

  1. Best rebounder at OSU since Greg Oden.

  2. He’s certainly draftable and is going to play in the NBA. While it’s not a huge surprise, at least for me it’s disappointing, but, that’s the selfish me. The other part of says that same thing I said about Denzel Ward………..go get paid!

  3. Best of luck to Keita Bates-Diop. Hope he has a highly productive, rewarding NBA career. From a fan standpoint, we would have loved for him to return for one more year – an established star like Keith would have made another winning season much more likely. But he’s been in Buckeyeland for four years, earned his degree, and like any other student that has earned the diploma, it’s time to move forward and see what life is like in the real world.
