Four-Star 2020 Safety Lejond Cavazos Commits to Ohio State

Four-star IMG (Bradenton, FL) safety Lejond Cavazos committed to Ohio State on Wednesday. He made the announcement via Twitter.

Cavazos (6-0 186) attends the same high school program that also produced current Buckeyes Malik Barrow, Marcus Williamson, Isaiah Pryor, and Taron Vincent.

He committed to Ohio State over offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Florida State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Michigan, USC, and others.

“The tradition there is second to none,” Cavazos said during his commitment. He also cited the impact that OSU’s Real Life Wednesdays program would have on him after football.

The 247Sports Composite has Cavazos as a 4-star prospect, the No. 10 safety, and the No. 212 player overall in the 2020 class. Rivals, however, likes him a bit better than that, ranking him as their No. 4 safety and No. 101 player in the 2020 class.

Cavazos, who is only gearing up for his junior season, ran a 4.56 and posted a 43″ vertical at a regional combine this spring.

The Buckeyes will likely once again look to bring in at least two safeties in the 2020 class, and two or three cornerbacks.

And while Cavazos is listed as a safety, he may follow suit with past “safeties” Jeff Okudah and Tyreke Johnson and start out at corner for the Buckeyes.

Cavazos becomes the second 2020 commitment for the Buckeyes, joining 4-star Tennessee offensive tackle Jake Wray. Cavazos may not be the last 2020 commitment happening in the next few days, however, as 4-star quarterback Jack Miller is set to make his announcement this weekend.

  1. It’s really something seeing guys who haven’t even played their junior season commit. It means you really have to hope they 1) continue to develop and 2) hold to their commitment [because that’s a lot of time for a kid to change their mind].
