Josh Proctor, Jaelen Gill, Sam Wiglusz Lose Black Stripes

Ohio State football Jaelin Gill

Two of the most hyped members of Ohio State’s 2018 recruiting class just officially became members of the team.

Safety Josh Proctor and wide receiver Jaelen Gill both lost their black stripes during practice on Wednesday, as did walk-on wide receiver Sam Wiglusz.

Proctor was a 4-star recruit out of Oklahoma. He was ranked as the 7th-best safety in his class and the No. 71 player overall.

Director of Player Personnel Ryan Stamper announced the news during practice on Wednesday.

“As soon as he figures it out, he’s going to be special,” he said about Proctor.

Jordan Fuller, one of the team captains and a fellow safety, did the honor of removing the stripe from Proctor’s helmet.

Gill was even more highly-touted, ranked as the 2nd-best all-purpose back and No. 30 player in the class overall.

Head coach Urban Meyer is briefly visible in the video announcing Gill’s stripe removal.

Stamper says Gill has “busted his butt” to earn his way onto the team.

Finally, Stamper calls Wiglusz a “fan favorite, a guy who’s been making plays since camp. Nobody knew who he was. Now everybody knows who he is.”

  1. My buddy and I were just discussing the D McCall situation the other day. He has had some unbelievable game highlights since his Freshman year. Every time he touches the ball he is electric, which is why his lack of touches is such a mystery. My thought is he must not be a good “practice” player. We aren’t at practice ,so , we don’t see what goes on. Just seems to me that he should be put in game plan for at least 10 plus touches. He has Barry Sanders type game breaking skill.

    1. He plays at the deepest position on the team. With Parris and (likely) KJ leaving after this year, his time will come.

  2. Barring any unforeseen health issues, by the time Jaelen Gill leaves Ohio State for the pro’s the H position won’t be the Curtis Samuel position, it will be the Jaelen Gill position.

I’m concerned with why DMac isn’t in the rotations at the H. The notion of ball security seems pretty lame noting that he’s returning kicks.

    1. I’m with you on Jaelen Gill.
