Buckeyes Will Be Without Cornerback Damon Arnette Against Purdue

Damon Arnette Ohio State Football Buckeyes

WEST LAFAYETTE, In. — Ohio State will be without starting cornerback Damon Arnette for Saturday night’s game at Purdue. Arnette was deemed questionable mid-week by Urban Meyer due to an undisclosed injury, but was not on the field with the rest of the corners during pregame warmups.

Arnette has started every game for the Buckeyes this season, but had to leave last week’s game against Minnesota early.

Arnette is seventh on the team in tackles (21), which is the most among the Buckeye cornerbacks.

The loss is significant for the Buckeyes, who are also without starting defensive end Nick Bosa, who is withdrawing from school in order to rehab and focus on the 2019 NFL Draft.

Purdue’s offense is second in the Big Ten in passing, averaging 330.8 yards passing per game. Quarterback David Blough has had some big games this season, including a 572-yard outing against Missouri five weeks ago.

Ohio State employs a “starting” rotation of three cornerbacks, with Kendall Sheffield and Jeff Okudah joining Arnette. Without Arnette this week, however, that rotation may not expand beyond Sheffield and Okudah.

Redshirt freshman Shaun Wade could see some snaps at cornerback, but he is also the team’s No. 1 nickel back and also the No. 2 strong safety.

  1. I think Meyer needs to be done. Hang it up, Urban! You’ve had a hell of a run, and it’s been a pleasure, but I think you are just emotionally and mentally done! There’s no discipline, and this team has the same issues week after week and they get worse. He’s lost control of his assistants and of this team.

    1. I agree about urban. I wonder if he still has the fire or at 8 mill a year if he hasnt got fat dumb and lazy. Maybe the events of this past summer have taken their toll on him. This is two years in a row that we’ve suffered embarrassing losses from teams that shouldnt even be on the field with us. Another underachieving mediocre year.

  2. The offensive line is so upright on running plays with no chance to get the push to open any holes, linebackers are missing in action, the D line is not the best in America, Haskins may be the least mobile quarterback in the country – opponents know our weaknesses and there is no improvement in sight.

  3. they are also missing linebackers, offensive line, coaching at both positions, any semblance of run-blocking, any sort of life and emotion, etc etc…this is just disgusting at this point. Meyer has seemed emotionally drained since the offseason …ji hope they right the ship during the bye week but I honestly don’t have much hope even though they can win out and win the conference….just baffling how bad this is…

  4. A clownshow.
    Can’t run the ball.
    Can’t stop the run.
    Can’t stop the pass.
Just a matter of time before this happen.

  5. Don’t matter they laid another egg.Worst #2 team ever,5star players my ass!

  6. Weird things that I am noticing during the game. On Purdue’s final score of the first half the play clock is at 8 and suddenly clicks to 25. On K.J. Hills catch at the 9 gets moved to the 10. Obvious calls just makes no sense
