Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm spoke Tuesday on the Big Ten’s weekly coaches teleconference. He spent his eight minutes in heaven talking mostly about the Buckeyes and how his Boilermakers match up against them. Brohm also spoke about what this opportunity means for the Purdue football program and what it will tell them about where they stand at the moment. Here are the highlights.
+ Saturday gives Purdue a great opportunity for the team and fans to play a team of this caliber. He hopes that Purdue can keep it close in the second half and go from there.
+ Brohm said one of the reasons for better performances from David Blough has been Brohm’s confidence in him with regard to play calling. He has also played tougher and hung in the pocket a little more. Blough is very confident right now.
+ “I think Ohio State’s a great football team.” The defense tries to take away the easy throws and make you throw it over the top. Sometimes teams have hit those. Purdue will have to do the same thing because of the press coverage. “They’re 7-0 so they’re doing a great job with what they’re doing.” But their aggressive defense makes them susceptible to deep shots, but it’s up to Purdue to execute on those plays. “Without question we have to find some ways to create big plays.”
+ Brohm can feel the buzz around town for this game. “We’re looking forward to it. It will be a great atmosphere.” This is an opportunity to move up the ladder and a huge test. A tradition powerhouse and the rightful No. 2 team in the country. It will be exciting to see how Purdue stacks up. “It is a great opportunity for all of our fans to come out and…hang in there as long as we can.”
+ OSU has a very good QB, good receivers, and a ton of experience. They are a pass-first team that uses that to set up the run. If you want to take away the run, they’re okay throwing it. This will be the first team Purdue has played that is this prolific in the passing game. They struggled defensively against the pass early in the season, so this will be a test for the Boilers.
+ Dwayne Haskins has taken charge and run with the Ohio State offense.
+ There are still deficiencies on defense that Purdue has had to mask. They are able to be more aggressive of late. The pass defense has been better the last few weeks but it is definitely a concern this week. The pass rush needs to be productive, but he likes that the defense is more aggressive now and giving them better opportunities to create plays.

“the rightful No. 2 team in the country.” Lol! You mean the most precariously over ranked team in the country. If you haven’t figured that out you heading for a heartache. LSU should be #2 since they took down Georgia. At this point OSU wouldn’t beat either of those teams. The highest ranked team OSU has beaten is #18 PSU which was overrated. A great passing game alone isn’t going to do it. You can’t pick up 4th and 1/2 a yard on Minnesota? Don’t kid yourself. The good thing is the games are going to get increasingly more exciting. I never believed Indiana or Minnesota would be so exciting! Poor Tate never got on the field. Neither did he against the Hoosiers. Not good, homers. These are clues. Will it be Purdue? It’s possible but I’m going with Dantonio and MSU as the first loss. I’d prefer that to losing to Michigan. You don’t even want to think about the CFP. Don’t go to a gunfight with a knife.
This isn’t a trap game!!! Perdue is gonna flat out beat us… this shit show of a defense is gonna get destroyed. Be prepared for the confusion, mistakes, penalties, out of position players and my favorite new code word for we’ve been out coached when they say we were “Out Schemed”. Give me a break
