Per Report, RB Sampson James Decommits from Ohio State

Ohio State football recruit Sampson James

While it had been rumored over the weekend, a report from the Indianapolis Star’s Kyle Neddenriep would apparently confirm that 2019 Avon, Indiana running back Sampson James has decommitted from Ohio State.

Jones, ranked the No. 8 running back in the nation, committed to Ohio State back in March. His pinned Tweet still says that he is “110% committed” to the Buckeyes.

Jones was the third commit for the Buckeyes in the 2019, and as is generally the case, not all of those early commits stick.

Ohio State still has one possible running back committed in Georgia athlete Steele Chambers. Chambers (6-2 215) and James (6-1 211) are both bigger backs and perhaps a bit redundant in this class.

Chambers could also end up on defense, which makes the running back situation a bit muddied at the moment.

The Buckeyes signed two in the 2018 class in Master Teague and Brian Snead. Teague has played in three games this season, while Snead has only played in two.

Snead has also been serving a suspension, with no updates on his status from the coaches. Could Snead redshirt this year, thereby making the need for a second running back in the 2019 class less important?

Perhaps, but OSU is still going to continue looking for ball carriers.

[Update: 6:20 pm]

James has announced his commitment to Indiana.

  1. Well I guess the Indiana loss at OSU convinced him otherwise……how stupid

  2. >>>Jamir Thomas broke the Massillon all-time rushing record, and moved within one of the all-time rushing-touchdown record as well. <<<

Does this man have an OSU offer yet? He also does LB.

He plays for an undefeated Tiger team that has just defeated Illinois all time leader in wins at East St. Louis, Illinois and the Montcalm (sp?) NJ state champ.
